As 2016 comes to an end and we welcome 2017, it is a great time to reflect, show gratitude and create new goals for the new year. The new year equals a new beginning, and there is something about it that boosts our motivation and drive to reach our goals & make lifestyle changes that will get us closer to where we want to be.
What better way to start the new year than to do these five things listed below over the next couple of days, that will get you moving in the right direction mentally for 2017.
1. Reflect and evaluate
What did you learn in 2016? What did you achieve in 2016? What setbacks and failures did you experience? How did you feel? How do you want to feel in 2017? What are you grateful for?What are some of your new goals?
Evaluating your 2016 will give you the clarity to move forward and set yourself some new things to work towards. You can plan in advance by strategising. For example, incorporating three short term goals into your daily life so the ‘big’ goals feel more attainable and not so out of each.
2. Create a vision board and start a manifestation journal
There is no better way to keep your goals in focus than creating a visual representation of them and writing them down. A vision board is: a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal […] a board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life (makeavisionboard.com). A manifestation journal is where you write down how you want to feel, who you want to be, affirmations, scriptures, prayers and entries to meditate on daily. You can also use that to narrow down strategies on how to complete them. I would suggest doing this because it’s great way to discover yourself, God and your purpose.
Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed – Proverbs 16:3
Whether it’s a body detox, mind detox or decluttering your living/work space, you need to be able move into the new year with a clear mind. Decide to let go of the baggage and things that bring you down. Get refreshed, re-energised and ready to take on new year!
4. Tie up loose ends
Go back to those areas of inconsistency and work towards finding a way to complete it now or for the new year.
5. Start now
It takes time to see results and you will encounter highs and lows with the changes you are trying to implement. Pray now. Make a change today. 2016 has taught me that I don’t have to wait the next month or new year to make changes. You can start at anytime. Everyday is a new day.
You have control of the direction of your life by the decisions you make.
